Every $1 = $2 to create & connect LGBTQ young with people with affirming communities
Hi
Friend of Trevor,
“Stories of Pride — The Power of Us” is The Trevor Project’s theme for Pride this month. The “Us” is you, me, and every compassionate ally uniting to create and connect LGBTQ young people with communities that support them.
We are celebrating communities this Pride season because they can be life-saving. According to our research, LGBTQ young people are less likely to attempt suicide if they live in a supportive environment.
For LGBTQ young people who feel alone as they navigate their dark moments, Trevor’s trained crisis counselors will only be a call, chat, or text away 24/7/365 — listening with compassion and communicating with empathy.
Today’s anti-LGBTQ backlash is taking a toll on many of the young people reaching out to Trevor. They’ve shared the pain of knowing that the people elected to protect them instead use their position and influence to harm them and their families.
They're seeing the introduction of bills that could criminalize doctors who provide best-practice medical care, subject parents and caregivers to child abuse investigations, and censor LGBTQ-related curricula. They fear what could happen if they become law.
Our findings support these individual stories: nearly 2 in 3 LGBTQ young people said that hearing about potential laws banning people from discussing LGBTQ people at school made their mental health a lot worse.
