“A Lebanese judge has accused five members of the powerful Iran-backed
Hezbollah group, only one of whom is in custody, of killing an Irish

Rooney, 23, was killed and three others were injured on December 14 when their
UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) vehicle was attacked near the village of
Al-Aqbiya, a Hezbollah stronghold in the south of the east Mediterranean
country. Fadi Sawan, the investigating judge in the military tribunal for the
case, issued a 30-page indictment accusing five Hezbollah members of ‘forming a
group of malefactors to commit a crime’, the official said, requesting
anonymity because he is not authorised to speak to the press. Mohammad Ayyad,
who has been in custody since Hezbollah handed him over to the army in

Troops In Syria: Report
<[link removed]>

“Newly revealed leaked documents reveal Iran could be readying for new
attacks against U.S. troops in Syria, according to a new Washington Post
report. The Post reports Iran is arming militants in Syria and building and
training forces to use bombs specifically intended to target U.S. military
vehicles — and to kill U.S. personnel. The escalatory move could risk U.S.
lives in the region and prompt a more direct military confrontation with
Tehran, according to the report. Another leaked document reportedly shows
Russia, Syria and Iran are working on a broader effort to push the U.S. out of
Syria. The U.S. has maintained a military presence in the country to guard
against a resurgence of Islamic State militants.”

Daily Mail: EXCLUSIVE Terrorists Who Plotted Fertiliser Bomb Attacks At
High-Profile Targets Like Bluewater Shopping Centre And Ministry Of Sound
Nightclub Are Granted Parole Hearing
<[link removed]>

“Two pro-Islamic State terrorists who plotted to plant massive bombs to cause
carnage at popular locations including Bluewater and Ministry of Sound have
been granted a parole hearing, MailOnline has learned. Jawad Akbar, from
Crawley, and Salahuddin Amin, from Luton, were key members of a five-strong
gang of terrorists who plotted to explode fertiliser-based bombs at high
profile targets such as the shopping centre in Kent and the famous London
nightclub. They will argue they are no longer a danger to society and can be
freed. At their 2007 trial, it also emerged that some of the plotters were
photographed by anti-terror police and security personnel meeting two of the
July 7 London suicide bombers. The fanatics had been planning a series of major
attacks in 2004 and had acquired 600kg of ammonium nitrate fertiliser, which
can be mixed with other substances to make a bomb.”

Associated Press: Centrist Parties Alarmed As Poll Shows Growing Support For
German Far Right
<[link removed]>

“Prominent members of German mainstream parties have expressed alarm at a new
poll that shows support for the far-right Alternative for Germany at a record
high. The DeutschlandTrend survey, conducted monthly by infratest dimap for
public broadcaster ARD, that was released on Thursday puts voter support for
Alternative for Germany at 18%, on a par with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social
Democrats. In the 2021 election, Scholz’s party received 25.7% of the vote,
while Alternative for Germany, or AfD, got 10.3%. ‘This (...) is a disaster and
should be understood as an alarm signal for all parties of the center,’ said
Norbert Roettgen, a senior lawmaker for the main opposition Christian
Democrats, whose support stood at 29% in the poll of 1,302 voters conducted
from May 30-31. The margin of error was up to 3 percentage points. Roettgen
said his own center-right party should ask itself why it hasn’t profited as
much from voters’ unhappiness at the government.”
