Happy Pride Month!

June represents LGBTQ Pride Month, an opportunity to celebrate and honor our magnificent, diverse community. 

54 years ago this month, an uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City kicked off our modern LGBTQ rights movement. The bravery of those Americans, led by Black and brown trans women, set us on a path of immeasurable progress. 

We’ve made huge strides since then. From the recognition of gay marriage by the Supreme Court in the 2015 decision Obergefell v. Hodges to last year’s passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, we have fought tirelessly for the LGBTQ community to be treated and respected like every other American.  

But we still have a long way to go. Republican-led state legislatures across the country continue to pass harmful legislation, especially targeting transgender people and LGBTQ youth. For all the progress we’ve made, far too many political leaders still want to chip away at LGBTQ equality. 

This Pride Month is a meaningful opportunity for us to celebrate the legacy of those in the LGBTQ community who paved the way for us and to renew our commitment to continue fighting to achieve full equality for everyone in the LGBTQ community.
