John,

I want to update you on where I stand regarding the bipartisan deal to lift the debt ceiling and prevent economic catastrophe. Last night, I voted ‘yes’ on the deal, but I wanted you to hear a few more of my thoughts on it. Here are three key takeaways:

→ The deal allows the government to continue funding vital programs that millions need. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security will continue to benefit Americans whose lives depend on them.

→ House Republicans didn’t get the spending cuts they wanted. Thanks to my Democratic colleagues in the House and President Biden’s team, the House GOP won’t get the across-the-board 22% cuts to federal agencies’ budgets they were hoping for.

→ This deal is far from perfect. I have real concerns about elements of the bill, including potentially damaging environmental policies. But while the deal is flawed, it’s vastly superior to economic collapse.

I’m proud to fight alongside my colleagues to protect critical government programs that people in CA-49 rely upon. And know this, John: As long as I’m Congress, I’ll continue to prioritize bipartisan policies that benefit the lives of people in our district and the nation.

Thank you for your time and support.

Mike
