What's On In June?
In this month's edition:
Celebrate PRIDE with us ([link removed]) as we dive into the depth and diversity of queer experiences from around the world. From young girls of color at the frontlines of social justice in We Are the Radical Monarchs ([link removed]) ; to homeless queer and trans youth forging family bonds and resilience in Pier Kids ([link removed]) ; to a teenager's journey of self-discovery and courage as they defy societal gender norms in Things We Dare Not Do ([link removed]) . POV is unwavering in our commitment to LGBTQ+ communities and the power of representation.
Honor the historical legacies and cultural heritage of Juneteenth ([link removed]) with our sterling selection of narratives by and about the African diaspora, including POV Shorts Season 5 stunners Shut Up And Paint ([link removed]) and You Can't Stop Spirit ([link removed]) . Our collection culminates with the Season 36 broadcast premiere of the lushly poetic After Sherman ([link removed]) on Monday, June 26th. You can learn more about the significance of Juneteenth here ([link removed]) .
Both of our collections feature touching StoryCorps shorts ([link removed]) that weave the voices of everyday Americans into compelling narratives, revealing our shared humanity.

We believe that everyone should have access to our documentaries, and that's why you can stream all of the films on the POV website ([link removed]) and the PBS App ([link removed]) . Make sure to follow us on social media for behind-the-scenes content, interviews with the filmmakers, and more!

After you watch, we'd also love to hear from you! Send us your thoughts, shoutouts, and ideas for future programming at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

Joychild ([link removed]) : A child reveals a secret to their mother: "I'm not a girl." This breathtakingly honest portrait of growing up gender expansive beautifully captures the hesitancy, fear, and relief at revealing one's innermost thoughts, as well as the unconditional love of a mother.

Muxes ([link removed]) : In the indigenous communities around the town of Juchitรกn, Mexico, the world is not divided simply into men and women. The local Zapotec people have made room for a third category, which they call โ€œmuxesโ€โ€”men who consider themselves women and live in a socially sanctioned limbo between the two genders.

Reluctantly Queer ([link removed]) : A young gay man from Ghana struggles to reconcile his sexuality and love for his mother through a series of letters in this deceptively simple yet powerful piece.
