Dear Friend,

The torrent of bad news coming out of Washington. D.C. can be overwhelming. At every turn, we are witnessing the degradation of our democracy and relentless attacks on women’s and immigrant rights.

But we are fighting back and we need YOU to stand with us. This week there will be two hearings on Capitol Hill: one for the Women’s Health Protection Act and another for the repeal of the expanded Muslim Ban that was announced by the Trump Administration last week. Both are super important!

Will you join us at either hearing to say YES to women’s health and NO to the Muslim Ban?

Reproductive health care is under attack across the country. There have been 400 needless abortion restrictions enacted since 2011. Twenty-five million women — that’s one in three women of reproductive age – now live in states in which abortion under any circumstances could be outlawed if the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade. [1] The Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 2975) protects against this by ensuring that the right to equal access to abortion stays legal and accessible everywhere for everyone. This hearing promises to be a historical one -- rather than playing defense, this will be the first proactive hearing on domestic abortion access legislation in almost 30 years!

And just last week, the Trump administration expanded its travel restrictions to include: Sudan, Tanzania, Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, and Nigeria (Africa’s largest economy with many families in the United States). Although the residents of these countries are majority Muslim, this ban affects all people who are seeking admission into the U.S. permanently. [2] In response to this, MomsRising has endorsed the National origin-based Antidiscrimination for Non-immigrants Act, S.1123 / H.R.2214 (“NO BAN Act”) – a civil rights bill that would end the Muslim Ban and amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion, ensuring that no president can ever again ban an entire community without accountability. We need you there with us to support this bill at the hearing!

It is crucial to pack the room for both of these hearings. We must show members of Congress that we won’t stand for attacks on our access to reproductive care and healthcare, nor will we tolerate a travel ban that is hurting families, neighbors, and children; and undermining the fundamental values of our nation.

Pass this email on to friends and family, or share the link below on Facebook, so they know they are invited too! The more people we can galvanize, the better!

Sign up for more information and to join us on Capitol Hill.

We hope to see you there. Together, we are a powerful voice for our communities.
