My friend,

Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn...

Our Fiscal Responsibility Act prevented a default on our debt and reduced inflationary spending for the first time in over a decade with the largest cut in history, spending caps, and checks and balances on the Executive Branch. It includes conservative wins like stopping Biden's plan to hire additional IRS agents this year, clawing back tens of billions in unused COVID funds, implementing new work requirements to reduce dependency on public benefits, cutting costly red tape that slows down critical infrastructure projects and the BIGGEST deficit reduction in American history.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo mandated nursing homes take in COVID-positive patients they couldn't isolate or care for against CDC guidelines. They didn't provide nursing homes with the proper PPE or use available alternative locations to care for these patients and then manipulated the data to cover up thousands of deaths. Our Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic wants accountability and we've called on Cuomo to testify!

House Republicans took action to secure our southern border by passing our border security package that works to stem the flow of illegal migration with effective policies including resuming construction of the border wall, hiring more border patrol agents, streamlining the asylum process, and reinstating 'Remain in Mexico'. This bill, coupled with our HALT Fentanyl Act, will go a long way in stopping the criminal organizations that are raking in billions of dollars by peddling deadly drugs over our border and into our communities to kill our youth.

I was proud to welcome a bipartisan group of colleagues from the House Committee on Ways & Means to Staten Island earlier this month for a field hearing on trade in America, securing supply chains, and protecting American workers.

New York Harbor is the largest container port on the East Coast and the second largest in the country. Reducing our country's dependency on China with pro-growth and trade policies and strengthening trade relationships with those who share our values to bring our supply chains home will keep our port busy and put American manufacturers, farmers, and workers first!

I joined the Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro in awarding Staten Island resident and 100-year-old veteran Daniel Lawrence Holihan the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", for his service as part of Underwater Demolition Team Thirteen in the Pacific Theatre Operations during World War II.

I want to thank VFW Post 7172 for bringing Mr. Holihan's heroic actions to our attention so we could arrange this beautiful ceremony ahead of Memorial Day Weekend. I took the opportunity to recognize Mr. Holihan's courageous service on the House Floor, officially adding his story to the Congressional Record.

I celebrated National Police Week by joining Chief Joseph Gulotta and other members of Staten Island Borough Command to highlight federal funding I've secured over the years for the NYPD to expand its K9 unit, purchase new protective equipment and forensic gear, along with new patrol vehicles and plate reader systems to crack down on rising car thefts in our community. We support the men and women of the NYPD and I will continue to advocate and deliver critical funds so they can get the job done and keep us safe!
