John, I'm not
writing to ask for a donation today.

Last night, I voted 'NO' on the Republicans’ hostage bill.

For weeks, Republicans have threatened economic catastrophe in order to
give their biggest donors a handout at the expense of everyday people. For
weeks, I have fought against these attacks and made clear that I would not
negotiate with the lives of poor people.

Every Democrat — including myself — was against a default. And thanks to
President Biden and Democratic leadership, we avoided the worst. But this
does not excuse the heinous actions of Republicans who showed their
gleeful willingness to take us to the brink of a crushing default to force
their cruel agenda through.

Republicans are utterly incapable of serving anyone but themselves and
their donors. They'll try to gaslight us with bullsh*t lies about the
deficit, but we'll remember that their billionaire donors gave up ZERO and
got yet another handout on the backs of the poor and marginalized.

As a Black woman from a working-class family in Western Pennsylvania, I
have an obligation to be a voice for my constituents, particularly the
most marginalized. On behalf of those people, I voted 'NO' to eliminating
crucial food and housing assistance.

I voted 'NO' to taking away Medicare and Social Security from those that
rely on these programs to survive.

I voted 'NO' to weakening environmental safeguards that protect clean air
and water in the Mon Valley.

I voted 'NO' to allowing the alarming precedent of Republicans holding our
economy hostage anytime they want to force through dangerous policies and
reward their billionaire donors.

I promised to be a Congresswoman for the most vulnerable. That is my
commitment to you, John.

In solidarity and gratitude,

Summer
