Happy Pride Month, John!

June is a source of tremendous pride for all Americans who are members of the LGBTQ+ community—and for all who love and support them. It’s a pretty big month for Connecticut too. 

In 1991, Connecticut became just the 4th state in the U.S. to enact laws prohibiting discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals, and Connecticut was at the forefront of ensuring true marriage equality.

Connecticut Democrats have a proud record of progressive accomplishment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

Did you know you can support these efforts by joining the LGBTQ+ Caucus? Registration is free, and all are welcome! Participate in our meetings, attend our monthly speaker series, get updates about the Caucus’ legislative work, and be an advocate for LGBTQ+ issues—for every individual and family in Connecticut.

Our LGBTQ+ Caucus works with communities and allies across the state to achieve legislative and policy successes, among them:

• Banning the devastating practice of conversion therapy
• Ensuring that the parental rights of same-gender couples are fully recognized
• Establishing the country’s first statutorily created LGBTQ+ Health and Human Services Network to recommend how to improve delivering services to the community
• Expanding the definition of “veteran” to allow individuals who were separated from military service under the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy to qualify for state veterans’ benefits
• Adding a non-binary gender option for Connecticut driver’s licenses and ID cards

This is an important month for visibility, so show your solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community loudly and proudly. Extend your support throughout the year by becoming a member of our LGBTQ+ Caucus and helping us build a more fair and compassionate Connecticut.
