Help Pass the Equal Act

John,

If you’ve only got 30 seconds to spare, read this:

Here’s what you need to know: People with crack cocaine charges have
been hit with way harsher penalties than those arrested for the same
amount of powder cocaine. Last year, we got a stone’s throw away from
passing the EQUAL Act that would end the current racist crack/powder
cocaine disparity that has disproportionately impacted the Black
community for decades — putting tens of thousands of people behind
bars. Unfortunately, while the bill passed the House with bipartisan
support in 2022, it died in the Senate. We can't let another year go
by without getting it passed.

Here’s what you can do to help: Take a moment to sign the petition
and share it with your network to help bring real change and justice
to the lives of thousands who have been caught up in our government's
endless and overly punitive war against drugs. [ [link removed] ]Please sign and
share the petition below.

If you’ve got 2 mins to spare, read this:

We are back and more determined than ever to pass the EQUAL Act. The
campaign has been reignited and we're already gaining ground in this
crucial fight for justice.

What Happened: We made great progress in our campaign for the EQUAL
Act last year.

* The EQUAL Act was initially proposed during the 2021-2022
Congressional session.
* The bill had passed the House of Representatives with an
overwhelming show of bipartisan support: 361 Yays to 66 Nays.
* Despite this promising start, the EQUAL Act didn't clear the
Senate hurdle before the session closed.

Why It Matters: The EQUAL Act 2023 isn't just legislation — it's a
beacon of hope for communities, particularly the Black community,
that have been disproportionately impacted by this racist sentencing
law. Here's why this campaign is critical:

* The Act seeks to end the unjust 18:1 sentencing disparity between
crack and powder cocaine, a vital step towards a more equitable
justice system.
* This fight symbolizes our stand against systemic racism and our
commitment to fostering a justice system that upholds dignity and
opportunity for all.

What’s Next: With the EQUAL Act 2023 back in motion, there's plenty
of work ahead. Here's what we're gearing up for:

* If you have not done so already, please [ [link removed] ]sign the petition
urging Congress to pass the EQUAL Act.
* Share the EQUAL Act petition with friends and family.
* Expect regular updates from us — we'll keep you informed about
the progress of the EQUAL Act and our advocacy efforts.
* We'll share opportunities for you to contribute to the cause.
Your voice and continued support make a world of difference.

Thank you for your support. Together, we will create a future with
freedom, dignity, and opportunity for all.

In solidarity,

Dream.Org
