I first and foremost want to thank everyone who’s donated to my campaign. It means the world to me. Truly.

There’s definitely a pressure in Washington to do things the same way as everyone else…the same way it’s been done forever. But sometimes the status quo deserves to be challenged. That’s something I’m sure of.

When I got to the Senate, no one tangled with the gun lobby. It was considered political suicide. But I helped build a gun safety movement that finally beat the gun lobby last summer.
People said that you shouldn’t challenge your party’s president on foreign policy. But I did. Leading the opposition to President Obama’s Syria war authorization and the war in Yemen.

And now, I’m challenging the status again, by taking a different approach to our fundraising for my reelection.

I’m not taking any PAC money. And I’ve promised not to use any gimmicks in asking for individual donations. That means no scare tactics or bogus deadlines or matches.

If you believe this is the way we should run campaigns, I hope you’ll consider supporting our effort by making a contribution today. You can use this link:

I want you to know that every day I wake up fighting to put you first. I’m focused on the work you elected me to do and try to minimize my time on the phone or at fundraising events as much as possible. It’s also why I’m not taking any money from PACs or corporations that just want to buy my time or votes.

But there are real obstacles to trying to raise money like this. I’m sure I’ve rocked the boat with some of my colleagues, and more importantly, it means I just have fewer options for how to raise the resources required for a Senate race like mine.

But I believe this way — a true grassroots campaign — is the right way to run a campaign. It just means I have to lean on people like you a bit more for support. So I am personally asking you:

Please consider making a contribution to my re-election today. It’d mean a lot to me, and it can help us create a different model for how these Senate campaigns are run.

With everything happening in Washington this week, this is a particularly important time for me to focus on the work you elected me to do. Every contribution helps me worry just a little bit less about our fundraising.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
