Last night, MAGA Republicans rammed through a debt ceiling deal that is a direct assault on our communities.
It loosens environmental protections, allowing corporate polluters to fast track dirty fossil fuel projects.
It adds harsh restrictions to SNAP and TANF, jeopardizing access to food and essential cash aid for vulnerable communities.
And it actually increases Pentagon spending while placing caps on services for working families.
Even as Republicans have cried crocodile tears about our country’s national debt, we’ve known all along that their cruel bill was not about limiting debt or deficits. It was about paying for even more tax cuts for the rich and corporations.
Now, as the dust settles on Republican hostage-taking, they plan to introduce a tax package in the next two weeks that makes the expiring portions of the Trump tax scam permanent. That means they passed a debt ceiling and budget deal that hurts vulnerable families—just to help pay for permanent tax cuts for the rich and corporations!
We’re fighting back and that means holding Republicans accountable to the voters who sent them to Congress.
