Friend -
We know we have shared with you how competitive we are expecting this race to be, but today we wanted to pull back the curtain and give you a glimpse into what is playing out on the Republican side right now.
This week, a poll was released showing that James Craig, one of last year’s failed Republican candidates for Governor in Michigan, is leading the list of potential Republican candidates by an overwhelming majority.
Before we explain why this matters (and what National Republicans are thinking), we know that no matter what, our race will be one of the most competitive in the country. If you can, will you chip in to help us build the foundation we need to win?

Here’s the deal: National Republicans have made it clear that they are going to throw everything they have at an open seat in a swing state. So, they are looking at data and polls just like this to determine who they want in the race to put them in the strongest position to flip this seat. In the poll, in addition to James Craig, they tested another former candidate for governor, a former congressman, and a Wall Street executive.
This is likely the first of many polls we will see in the coming weeks and months as Republicans dedicate time and resources to deciding who their best candidate will be.
In the meantime, they are wasting no time building the infrastructure they think will set them up for success down the line – including already airing attack ads against us.
So, what does that mean for us? We’re also looking at data and information to build a strategic and thoughtful campaign. And part of that means relying on grassroots supporters like you to help us build the early financial foundation our campaign will need to handle what the eventual Republican opponent throws our way.
Will you chip in anything you can afford to help Elissa win this race and be a champion for Michigan in the Senate? Your support means so much in a race that will have such a big impact on the future of Michigan.
