Representative Adriano Espaillat Votes 'No' to Protect the Working Families of New York's 13th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement on his vote against the debt default crisis manufactured by MAGA Republicans.

“Let’s be clear, Republicans recklessly threatened a job-killing recession for their political gain,” said Rep. Espaillat. “As a Member of the Appropriations committee, I believe that the power of the purse lies in Congress. I will stand by the right to ensure environmental justice, cash assistance for working class families through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, and firmly believe that student loan forgiveness will boost the economy, benefiting everyone. This bill neglects all of these important matters.

"Republicans have refused to work collaboratively with us and each time there is a major policy decision that needs to be made in Congress, the Republican-controlled majority has been plagued with chaos and confusion. This is not how government works and this is not how you prioritize the American people who are counting on us to work on their behalf."

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fourth term in Congress. Representative Espaillat currently serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Committee on Appropriations responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities and serves as Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee of the committee during the 118th Congress. WASHINGTON, DC – El día de hoy, el congresista Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) emitió la siguiente declaración sobre su voto en contra de la crisis de incumplimiento de pago de deuda fabricada por los republicanos de MAGA.

“Seamos claros, los republicanos amenazaron imprudentemente con provocar una recesión que acabaría con el empleo solo para obtener beneficio político”, dijo el Rep. Espaillat. “Como miembro del Comité de Apropiaciones, creo que la competencia sobre los presupuestos recae en el Congreso.
