Hi Friend,
Tonight, the House of Representatives will vote on a bipartisan agreement allowing the government to pay its debts and avoid default. We will be direct: A vote against this agreement will almost certainly set our country on a course of cascading decline.
Congress needs to hear your voice to do the right thing on the aptly named Fiscal Responsibility Act.

Honoring our financial obligations, which Democrats and Republicans alike previously authorized, will determine whether we remain a nation of integrity. When we give our word to friends, allies, partners and foes, they need to believe us. Would you trust someone who broke their word to you? Nations never recover from such dishonor.
Tonight’s vote will also show whether our government can still function. Friend, it’s no secret that we are deeply divided. But leaders and members of both parties can come together, from very different perspectives and places. So much credit goes to the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus ([link removed] ) , which was instrumental in bringing the parties together and has endorsed the measure.
Will everyone get all they wanted? Of course not. Will everyone have to give up something important? Of course. That’s how life works: We give a little, we get a little, we shake hands—or bump fists—and we move on.
This is how democracy works. Anyone who comes to Congress expecting otherwise does not understand democracy, doesn’t understand America, and probably should not be in Congress.
It is deeply unfortunate that we find ourselves hurtling toward the abyss so often. It’s no way to run a country. But today, we have an opportunity to step back.
But only if you step up. We hope each member of Congress will look into their conscience before a vote. But we know they will also be checking the emails and phone calls from their constituents.
So, we urge you to click here to contact your House representative right now ([link removed] ) .
Thank you for your time.
