Hi Friend,

As we reach the end of the month, I’m reflecting on May being Mental Health Awareness Month. It’s a time for us to raise awareness around mental health and combat the lingering stigma that still surrounds it.

More than one in five people in the U.S. live with mental illness. That means tens of millions of people struggle with their mental health. But even though it’s incredibly common, there’s still a stigma surrounding the issue.

Think of it this way: If you fall down and break your arm, the natural decision is to go to the doctor or the emergency room. But for folks struggling with their mental health or having a mental health crisis, there’s still stigma surrounding seeing a mental health provider.

Too many people are suffering in silence. It’s on all of us to break the stigma. Checking in with your friends and family can make a world of difference, and that can start with a simple conversation.

I’m taking stock of my own mental health and the mental health of my loved ones. I hope all of you can too.

Take care of yourself,

Peter Welch
