Hey John,
Right now the most vulnerable individuals are being exploited on a massive scale and it will only get worse if we don’t take action now. But can we as average citizens really make a difference to help them? The answer is YES. In Direct Action Everywhere’s workshop, you will learn the history of social movements, the ground-breaking new research that shows the power of ordinary people, and the bold plan to nonviolently abolish the most harmful industry on earth that kills billions of animals every year. This interactive workshop was created by DxE co-founder and former Northwestern law professor Wayne Hsiung. After this workshop you will have the tools to begin taking high impact action with thousands around the world to create historic change by saving billions of lives. Come learn how you can be part of the change this Saturday, February 15th, 1 PM at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Monday, February 10th, 7:30 PM: Creative Mondays: ALC Flag Painting - Come help us prepare for the Animal Liberation Conference 2020! Flag painting was so much fun last month, the Creative Team has decided to throw another Flag Painting Party! Cookies, coffee, music and smiles provided! Bring some friends, no skills required!
- Saturday, February 15th, 11:00 AM: Meetup: Hear from the Candidates - Join us on Saturday to hear from the candidates for DxE's leadership positions. This is your chance to directly ask questions to the candidates and discuss topics or concerns. Elections for DxE leadership positions will take place on February 16th, the day after this Meetup! Brunch will be vegan breakfast burritos and as always there will be fresh, hot coffee!
- Saturday, February 15th, 1:00 PM: Chick-nic at Hens of the Hills - Join us on Saturday at Hens of the Hills, a microsanctuary for rescued chickens in the Berkeley Hills. Learn about the beauty of chickens, hang out with fellow animal allies and enjoy delicious vegan food and drinks. Please wear clothes that you are comfortable with getting a little bit of dirt on, and feel free to bring a favorite dish or beverage to share! If you bring treats for the hens, please make sure they are organic, as these are some spoiled ladies. This is a great event for folks curious about adopting chickens. Come with questions about chicken care, microsanctuary setup, or simply a desire to hear the stories of 9 rescued hens. Join us at 547 Vistamont Avenue, Berkeley, CA.
- Sunday, February 16th, 12:00 PM: Tier II Protest Training - Do you want to better equip yourself to join nonviolent protests and disruptions? Are you interested in participating in higher-intensity actions? Then this training is for you! In order to make protests as effective, safe and empowering as possible, protests organized for the DxE SF Bay Area chapter are now divided into "Tiers". Everyone is welcome to attend Tier I protests, but activists wanting to attend Tier II protests will need to attend this training first. The training includes a brief overview of DxE's protest goals and strategy, how to get into events, responding to violence, a Know Your Rights training, and more. Each section will include hands-on practice. While everyone is welcome to attend, this training is best suited for activists who have attended a few DxE protests before and are interested in doing more high intensity protests. People who have already taken this training are welcome to attend again, though the training will be very similar.
This is an e-mail list for DxE SF Bay Area event announcements. Check out our online calendar or Facebook page to keep track of all the events we've got going on.
