(Washington, D.C.) – The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) today released its 2022 Congressional Ratings, highlighting the voting records of all 535 voting members of Congress during the second session of the 117th Congress. The report, which CCAGW has issued since 1989, identifies members whose voting records helped protect the taxpayers’ money, as well as those who consistently voted against their interests.
Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) our May 2023 Porker of the Month for signing a budget that bans gas stoves and furnaces in new residential buildings.
Americans know that if they are running out of money to pay their creditors and reduce their debts, spending cuts need to be made somewhere so they don’t go into default. That helps to explain why a CNN poll released on May 23, 2023, found that 60 percent of those surveyed agree that raising the debt ceiling should be accompanied by spending cuts. While negotiations continue between the White House and Congress to increase the debt limit, whether the deadline is June 1, 2023, or a week later, the discussions should be broadened to include every dollar spent by the federal government.
Citizens Against Government Waste is the nation's largest taxpayer watchdog group with more than one million members and supporters nationwide. It is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
