As an activist, I’ve dedicated my life to advocating for justice and equality. Now, I am running for re-election in Congress to ensure that every voice is heard, every vote is counted, and every citizen's right to vote is protected.

Democracy's heart lies in the right to vote. But it pains me deeply to witness the systemic barriers that prevent people from exercising this basic right. We can’t ignore the injustices that disenfranchise marginalized people and prevent them from having their voices heard to influence the direction of our country.

I’m talking about people like my barber, a hardworking and resilient person who, two decades ago, committed a crime driven by desperation. Despite serving his sentence, turning his life around, and successfully building his own business, he is unable to vote because of a felony conviction from his past.

His story isn't unique, John. This ruthless system that silences America’s most vulnerable in our electoral process? It isn’t an accident. It's all by design. Republicans who benefit from voter suppression and maintaining the status quo will throw endless amounts of dark money to squash any chance of progress.

That’s why as a Congressman, I'm fighting to ensure that every citizen—regardless of their past or background—can participate in our democracy. I’m committed to this fight because, without voting rights, it’ll be impossible to safeguard our Democratic values, leaving abortion rights, gender equality, and social security vulnerable to being stripped away by Republicans.
