Hi John,
One of Mayor Joe's top priorities is combatting the senseless scourge of gun violence we see across our country.
In 2021, Mayor Joe announced a three-year anti-violence public safety strategy. In its first year, we were encouraged to see a 16% drop in homicides. The largest decrease in the history of IMPD.
This year, we've seen more encouraging signs with homicides and nonfatal shootings continuing to drop.
While the statistics may be headed in a better direction, Mayor Joe knows that every life lost to gun violence is one life too many.
That's why Mayor Joe recently announced a package of new gun safety measures.
The gun safety package includes:
- A complete ban on the sale of AR-15's and similar military-style assault weapons
- Raising the minimum age to purchase a firearm from age 18 to 21
-Ending permitless and concealed carry policies in Marion County
-Record $20 million investment in our city's mental health and violence prevention services
This package of laws would make Indianapolis safer, reduce gun violence, but most importantly they would give people the peace of mind and sense of safety they deserve going about their daily lives.
If you want an Indianapolis that is safer and more prosperous for all of us, support Mayor Joe for re-election today by chipping in a few dollars! [[link removed]]
