It’s the end of May, and I’m writing to humbly ask for your help with tonight’s big deadline.
We are now just a few months from the cutoff for potential opponents to declare their candidacy. We already have one opponent, and the National Democrat machine is working overtime to recruit others. They frankly can’t wait to open their huge war chest in our district.
There are a few reasons the National Democrats are focused on us:
First, we were the majority-maker last year, winning the decisive 218th seat that
ended Nancy Pelosi’s reign as Speaker.
Second, we are in a classic “swing” district, where the number of Democrat and Republican voters is nearly even.
Third, and most importantly, we have been making an outsize impact on Capitol Hill. We are holding Biden accountable and stopping Newsom’s California catastrophe from going national. We are going to battle with the likes of AOC every day.
We were able to win a decisive victory last year because we outperformed expectations – and that was only possible because of your incredible grassroots support. This is what the DCCC wrote heading into last year’s election:
California’s 3rd Congressional District continues to trend towards Democrats and away from Republicans. Since 2014 Republicans have lost 4 points in their registration share while Democrats have picked up 4 points. In recent elections the district has swung in Democrats’ favor; President Biden performed 3 points better than Secretary Clinton in 2016
These trends mean they are poised to spend even more than the $4 million they spent last year. They truly think they can beat us. But with your help, we’ll prove them wrong again.
They also think that the threat of a well-funded opponent will cause us to “play it safe” in the meantime – to stop putting pressure on Biden, to stop getting in Newsom’s way, to stop holding people accountable. They could not be more wrong.
We ran for Congress not just to hold a seat, not just to help claim the Majority – as important as that was – but to be an agent of change. We came to D.C. to fight. Your support is what enables me to fight, and for that I am incredibly grateful.
