<[link removed]> ConservAmerica’s Brent Fewell and his family enjoyed Acadia National Park this month. See more photos from his adventure on our social media channels, linked at the bottom of this newsletter! As you’ll see in this month’s newsletter, it’s been busy around here! This is the summer push to the August recess, so Congress is full speed ahead. The big news right now is the debt ceiling. ConservAmerica commends Speaker Kevin McCarthy for negotiating an agreement that protects the U.S. economy and achieves some important policy priorities, including the acceleration of permitting for vital energy projects. The time frame for receiving federal permits is unacceptable, harming our energy security and hindering progress toward meeting climate goals. The bill will help to address this problem in several ways, such as by setting a one-year deadline for environmental impact statements, designating a lead federal agency for each project, and increasing transparency. While we urge Congress to continue working on a comprehensive set of reforms to fix the country's broken permitting system, this agreement represents an important step in the right direction. Similarly, the bill’s provisions expediting the completion of the Mountain Valley natural gas pipeline represent a much-needed step toward our energy security and economic objectives. We have a lot of content for you this month, so we’ll let you get into it, but not before sharing this article we found <[link removed]> with some tips on National Park travel for summer 2023. Get out there and enjoy our country’s incredible landscape! May Highlights <[link removed]> ConservAmerica Statement on Sackett v. Although divided on their rationale, the Justices’ ruling is a victory for the rule of law and provides greater clarity to landowners, industry, and farmers who have had to deal with regulatory overreach and uncertainty for the last several decades. Most Americans would agree that Congress has a responsibility to exercise its oversight responsibility and look into how the accident happened and take steps to reduce not only the likelihood of future derailments but also the environmental impact of accidents when they do happen.
