Fellow Kansan,
Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m excited to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas.
It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come.
Yours in service,

Yesterday, I led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renaming of the Herington post office as the Captain Emil J. Kapaun Memorial Post Office Building. I am proud to have sponsored the legislation to rename the Herington Post Office in honor of Father Kapaun.
On the day after Memorial Day, it was particularly meaningful to gather with Kansans to celebrate the life and legacy of Father Kapaun, a man of God who showed incredible bravery and selflessness in his service. My prayers are with the Kapaun family as we celebrate Father Kapaun’s life and sacrificial love. May the Captain Emil J. Kapaun Post Office Building in Herington serve as a reminder of that great love and as an inspiration to do likewise for generations to come.

Honoring Our Fallen Servicemembers on Memorial Day |
It was an honor to join the American Legion Post #14 in Lawrence and the VFW in Holton for their Memorial Day ceremonies. I always enjoy spending time with veterans, learning from their perspectives, and thanking them for their service.
During my first two years in Congress, I proudly served on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and I count it a privilege to work on behalf of veterans and their families every day. Memorial Day makes me proud to be an American, a Kansan, and your Representative in Congress.
America is the greatest nation on earth because of the sacrifices of the brave men and women whom we honor today. May we never take them or their service for granted.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
- John 15:13

U.S. Supreme Court's Unanimous Decision to Restrict EPA's WOTUS Overreach
|
The U.S. Supreme Court's decision last week was a big win for farmers, ranchers, and producers. This unanimous ruling will protect landowners' rights and limit government overreach under President Biden's Waters of the U.S. rule. President Biden vetoed the WOTUS legislation sent to him by Congress last month. Since 2012, presidential administrations have continually redefined Waters of the U.S., and farmers, ranchers, and producers have operated under at least five definitions of “water” in the last ten years. In January 2023, the Biden Administration published its final WOTUS rule, which we now know is unconstitutional.
I have been fighting against President Biden's overreaching WOTUS rule since the beginning. Now that both the legislative and judicial branches have spoken clearly on the EPA’s overreaching use of the Clean Water Act, it’s up to the Biden Administration to reverse course on their unconstitutional and misguided rule.

Fighting President Biden's Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Hotline, Introducing Legislation in Response
Abortion has desensitized our nation and resulted in the deaths of nearly 64 million unborn American citizens, which is basically the entire population of the Midwest. Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, rectifying a wrong that has plagued our country for decades, and while that is a huge triumph for the right to life, there is still work to be done.
President Biden’s proposed $1.5 billion abortion hotline is a gross violation of the law, and my Republican colleagues and I are working to prevent it from going live. Last week, I led more than 50 of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden opposing the creation of his taxpayer-funded abortion hotline. I also introduced legislation that would prohibit President Biden from using taxpayer dollars to fund a counseling or referral system for abortions.
I believe that life begins at conception, and I will fight to protect the lives of all Americans – born and unborn.

About My Legislation Below.

Fighting the Fentanyl Crisis
President Biden has created a crisis at our Southern Border, where fentanyl floods into our country daily. While my Republican colleagues work to secure our border and hold President Biden accountable, this legislation will help us use law enforcement as a tool to tackle the fentanyl crisis.
H.R. 467, the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of (HALT) Fentanyl Act recognizes the danger of fentanyl-related substances, puts them in the same legal category as the most dangerous drugs, and gives researchers new abilities to study the drug’s effects. As drug overdose deaths reach historic levels in our country and the border crisis worsens every day, this legislation works to save precious lives amidst the tragedy of addiction.

Celebrating the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility Ribbon Cutting in Manhattan |
Last week, the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) in Manhattan held its ribbon-cutting ceremony. It has been eight years since the groundbreaking in 2015. Now, this state-of-the-art, 700,000-square-foot facility will be a national asset that will help protect our nation’s agriculture against the threat and potential impact of serious animal diseases.
NBAF was designed to strengthen America’s ability to conduct research, develop vaccines, diagnose emerging diseases, and train veterinarians. I am proud to have this facility, the only maximum bio-containment space in the country, right in the heart of my district and right down the street from K-State's School of Veterinary Medicine and the Biosecurity Research Institute – crafting a partnership for years to come.

The Lesser Prairie-Chicken Does not Belong
on the Endangered Species List
|
The designation of the lesser prairie-chicken as threatened in places like Kansas is unacceptable, and President Biden’s rule should have no force or effect until Congress is consulted. It’s time for my colleagues in the House to decide whether they want to stand for big government overregulation that will put producers out of business - or stand up for producers’ rights to private property and self-determination.
I spoke on the House Floor to bring attention to the impact that unscientific abuse of the Endangered Species Act can have on rural communities in Kansas and across America.

North American Millers' Association, REPCO
Thank you to REPCO and the North American Millers’ Association for meeting with me about food aid last week. REPCO is an organization based out of Salina that manufactures high-quality nutritional mixes. The North American Millers’ Association represents millers of wheat, corn, oats, and rye in the U.S. and Canada. Together, the organizations know well the importance of feeding the world and purchasing American commodities to do so. I look forward to working with them in advance of the next Farm Bill.
