We beat the gun lobby in Pennsylvania last week! The House of Representatives passed two key pillars of our Common Agenda to End Gun Violence: bills to allow Extreme Risk Protection Orders1 and require universal background checks2 will now move on to the Senate, where we’ll need to fight even harder for success. And we’re not giving up on House passage of the remaining bills to require lost and stolen reporting of guns3 and safe storage of firearms in the home4. Can you help fund our work to keep winning votes that will save lives?
It’s worth taking a step back to see how far we’ve come just in the past two months...
The March For Our Lives: PA Advocacy Day on March 23rd played a key role in kick starting our success. The power of almost 500 of you rallying, meeting with legislators and demanding action was undeniable. Amanda in rural Pike County shared: “I met so many people who have lost loved ones to this public health crisis and their stories will stay with me forever. To be surrounded with so much hope, courage and action was exactly what I needed to be a more effective organizer.”
Student volunteers from Swarthmore College captured this energy and commitment from Advocacy Day in a video we want to share so you can experience it yourself:
From there, we quickly saw the House Judiciary Committee pass these bills, the full House debate them, and then Final Passage in the space of weeks. All because of you.
Gun safety victories are not easy to come by in Pennsylvania. Our organizing, advocacy and communications work has been on full speed this year and we need the resources to keep it up and push even harder. Please support our collective continued fight for legislation to save lives. Thank you.
