John -

Here in the United States, our climate movement is setting out to build
the loudest and most diverse campaign in organizational history:

We are building a campaign targeting utilities companies around the
country to transition OFF of fossil fuels and BUILD renewable energy
solutions.

I'll explain all about the Utilities Campaign in just a moment, but first
I need to ask if you can kickstart our brand new Utilities Campaign with a
$3.50
contribution today:

[ [link removed] ]Will you become a kickstarter of the 350.org Utilities Campaign? We'll
put your contribution straight to work launching pilot projects in Ohio
and West Virginia.

John — it is
outrageous that utilities companies in the United States are still
investing in fossil fuels and building dirty coal and gas plants.

Gas utilities can control everything we do in our homes from cooking,
staying warm and having daily access to vital devices to support anything
from working from home to monitoring our health.

What is so insidious about our dependence on gas utilities is it is, in
fact, making our lives worse. The everyday use of gas utilities can emit
harmful pollutants within your home leading to ailments including cancer.
Additionally, these companies are often able to increase rates leaving
lower income people and families having to decide between paying a utility
bill or rent. Emissions from gas consumption overall contributes to 65% of
all CO2 emissions. So what are we paying for? Financial stress, new health
issues and a burning planet? Something has to change.

It is essential that we switch our energy dependence here in the United
States off of gas and onto renewable energy. Simply put, fossil fuels
cannot continue if we want to have a livable planet.

A campaign like this one has never been run before at 350.org, and it's
not going to be easy. But if we can pull this off, we will quite literally
transform the energy system in this country.

That's why today I am asking you to kickstart our brand new Utilities
Campaign with a
$3.50
contribution:

[ [link removed] ]Can you please make your
first
$3.50
contribution to kickstart the 350.org Utilities campaign?

The first step in this campaign is understanding which campaign demands
for utilities are most winnable and at the same time grow and strengthen
the movement for a just transition. That's why we are launching pilot
projects in key states so we can lay the foundation for our national
campaign:

In West Virginia and Ohio, we are fighting back against American Electric
Power (AEP). AEP is pushing for utility rate increases and is also selling
a coal plant that was set for decommissioning but that will remain
operating if the sale goes through.

Given that local Public Utility Commissions are often captive to industry,
we have been working to organize locally against AEP by engaging with our
350 local groups as well as a variety of movement partners.

We are also working with a broad range of networks in West Virginia and
Ohio to facilitate campaigns that support people struggling to pay their
bills and install rooftop solar.

But pushback from our political opponents has only just begun, and
threatens to compromise the gains our movement has made both in the power
of coalitions and the strength of our demands.

That's why we need your help right now:

Thank you for considering making a donation to kickstart our Utilities
Campaign and accelerate a just and equitable energy transition driven by
communities.

More on this campaign soon.
