Anti-LGBTQ activists want the general public to believe they're leading a grassroots movement. They want people to think they're the ones that are standing up for kids - and that they have a majority of support from Americans.
But the levels of support they enjoy are a lie (just like the lies they peddle about healthcare for trans kids). Recent reporting by the Associated Press , Vice and more show that the many anti-LGBTQ bills are spread by just a handful of extremist groups . They feed these bills to select lawmakers, literally copy and pasting the bill's language across state lines. They give lawmakers false stories and fake testimonies about the "dangers" accepting of LGBTQ+ people and vilifying trans people. Then, they turn around to say they're a national movement, when the truth is the complete opposite!
Look, these groups are desperate. They know the majority of Americans don't buy into their nonsense. We see the rejection of their hatred every election cycle, when more and more LGBTQ+ people win their campaigns. Every LGBTQ+ candidate we elect is PROOF that these bigots are full of it. Here's the truth: polling shows that Americans are sick of anti-trans bills. They want their lawmakers to address ACTUAL issues, not waste time targeting LGBTQ+ people. More polling also shows that acceptance of trans people is growing across party lines - especially among people who know and love a trans person. Danica Roem, who's running to be the first out trans state Senator elected in the South, has polling that shows her constituents have better opinions about trans people BECAUSE she ran for office!
Look, these bigots know they can only win if they spread hateful lies, demonize trans people and recruit bigoted legislators. The best way to beat them at their own game is to keep electing LGBTQ+ people and ensure trans people have an equal seat at the tables of power.
