Dear John,

Ever since Obergefell, targeted attacks against Americans who believe in man-woman marriage have been becoming more frequent with every passing year. Now that Congress has voted to redefine marriage, the number of these cases is sure to rise.

Will you contact Delegate Norton now and urge them to protect those with sincerely held beliefs about man-woman marriage?

Last year, while Congress was considering the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act, Lindsey Barr, a Christian teacher in Richmond Hill, Georgia, was fired from her job for requesting that her children be excused from a read-aloud program that included books depicting characters in same-sex relationships. After becoming aware of the books in the program, Barr went to the principal of the school and noted her concern about her two children being exposed to material that violated her sincere religious beliefs about marriage. Her children were excused from participating in the program, but Barr was subsequently fired.

Barr chose to sue the school district, arguing that her First Amendment rights had been violated and, thankfully, won her case and was recently reinstated to her position as substitute teacher. Unfortunately, not everyone being targeted for their beliefs will be as courageous (and fortunate) as Barr. No one should have to spend time and money in court to fight for their basic rights under the Constitution.

Unfortunately, instances like these are likely to become more frequent, as we begin to feel the full impact of Congress' redefinition of marriage. Federal, state, and local governments are engaging in discrimination, which is why Congress needs to act.

Thankfully, Rep. Chip Roy (TX) is leading the charge to establish protections for such marriage beliefs by making sure that federal funds are not used to discriminate against sincere people of faith.

Tell Delegate Norton to support Rep. Roy's efforts!

No government should be allowed to discriminate against someone solely due to their sincerely held religious beliefs. Congress must act to ensure that the right of all to participate in society in accordance with their beliefs and worldview is protected.

Sincerely,
