Clara Barbosa Guarani speaks out against colonizers who have stolen her people's land.. © Survival

Dear Jack,

The Guarani people of Brazil have spent decades trying to regain their ancestral lands – and Survival has been fighting alongside them. Some communities have succeeded in regaining at least part of their land from the violent ranchers who stole it decades ago – even in the face of extreme violence. But many are still living alongside highways and in overcrowded reserves, in dismal conditions. They – and we – are continuing to fight for full recognition of their land, so they can return in peace.

Clara Barbosa Guarani, of Laranjeira Nhanderu community, has been shot at and arrested by military police. Other Guarani people – like Survival’s old friend Marcos Veron – have been murdered as they struggle to regain their land. But they will not give up, and neither will we.

Please help us continue to support Guarani communities like Clara's so that they can return to the lands that are rightfully theirs.

Clara told us, “We trust Survival very much. Mainly for the talent that Nhanderu [our creator] gave you to face the world, like we do.”

A huge thank you to those who have already donated, but if you have not yet supported this appeal – and you’re able to do so in these tough times – please consider making a donation. Every gift is appreciated, and none is too small.

Best wishes,

Fiona Watson
Research and Advocacy Director
