Hi John,

“That’s me. I get $750 a month.”

I was canvassing yesterday in a working-class neighborhood in Tacoma, and when I asked Sylvia* what her #1 issue is, she said taking care of seniors. I agreed, because a lot of people only get $800-$1,200, and she told me that’s her.

If you think seniors should get more than $750 a month, please donate $4.62 to my campaign now to help me expand Social Security.

She then shared with me that her rent is $650 a month.

Imagine being Sylvia. You have $100 a month for EVERYTHING except rent and food (she gets food stamps). That includes:

Electric and other utilities…

Cell phone and internet…

Personal items like toilet paper…

The laundromat if you don’t have a washer/dryer at home…

God forbid you have a pet and enjoy yourself in life a little.

Could you do it?

I am running for Congress for women like Sylvia, because “respecting your elders” is meaningless if our elders can barely afford to live. Respecting your elders doesn’t mean just giving them $2 off pancakes at IHOP.

Respecting our elders means ensuring they have the means to live a dignified, comfortable, and secure life.

Think about the name “Social Security.” It’s social. And it’s about security.

I’m sick of living in an antisocial society, with each person viewed as a productivity unit on the 1%’s spreadsheet. Where we exist solely to make a profit for our bosses. And where anyone who’s a senior or disabled is viewed as a burden on society who should be given as little as possible to survive — or less — until they’re gone.

We are human beings. Human beings are social animals. We take care of each other. And we deserve to live with security.

With my opponent Derek Kilmer having collected $503,500 from corporate PACs in this election cycle alone, I need your help to get to Congress and fight for expanding Social Security, so women like Sylvia can live with dignity.

What does it take to win? An army of volunteers and tens of thousands of canvassing postcards. Each postcard costs 11 cents, and $4.62 buys 42 postcards. Chip in $4.62 here so we can buy more postcards, knock more doors, and help women like Sylvia:
