John, this is a little bit longer of an email, but it’s important and I hope that you’ll stick with me through the end.
Last December, we launched our 2024 Candidate Recruitment efforts. We’ve been accepting nominations from folks across the country. In 2017, AOC was nominated to run by her brother and with your support we took on the entire political establishment and helped power her campaign to victory.
So far in 2023, we’ve been poring over thousands of submissions and I wanted to share some ‘behind the scenes’ information with you on this process and what we’ve been up to:
Phase 1: District Prioritization
Because we know millions of dollars from corporate interests will be spent against our recruited candidates, we must be extremely intentional and data driven to determine what districts will be the most impactful.
Phase 2: Community Outreach
Recruiting everyday working Americans like nurses, principals, community organizers and union members takes a lot of work.
Last cycle we reached out to nearly 4,000 members of various communities across the country and vetted 1,500 nominees for Congress. This deep connection to local communities is essential to finding the next Cori Bush or Jamaal Bowman.
Phase 3: Launch Campaigns
We’re with our candidates from Day 0, preparing them with everything they need to run for Congress.
No other organization in the progressive space recruits candidates to run for Congress and works with them from the very beginning. We’re making it possible for grassroots campaigns to even get started and we continue to build the infrastructure for future leaders to run as well.
We’ve elected some incredible leaders, shifted the overton window, and are building the infrastructure that allows truly grassroots candidates to run, compete, win, take office and start changing this country. And it’s all possible because of people like you chipping what you can.
Our ability to carry out these plans this year largely depends on whether or not we reach our fundraising targets each month. Right now, we’re working overtime to reach our $95,000 fundraising goal. We fell short of our fundraising goal last month, so it’s really important that we make up the difference.
That’s why I’m asking, John: can you make your first donation to Justice Democrats today? Your first-time contribution would mean so much to me.
→ Yes, I can donate today to help build the Justice Democrats bloc in Congress.
Thank you for being a part of our movement and work.
In solidarity,
Geoff Simpson
Campaigns Director
