John -

On Sunday night, we got disappointing news. Congress released the text of
the latest debt ceiling bill (aka the Fiscal Responsibility Act) — which
includes language to officially approve and expedite the completion of the
Mountain Valley Pipeline.

This fight isn’t over though — Congress still has to vote on this bill.

[ [link removed] ]We’re urging all of our supporters to reach out to their members of
Congress and call for a clean debt ceiling deal. The next 12 hours are
critical to stopping this bill, so please take a moment to act now:

John, the
Mountain Valley Pipeline isn’t the only piece of this dirty deal that we
have to stop. According to the text, this bill would also gut core
environmental protections like the National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA) and strengthen protections for polluters.

This bill also makes social programs like SNAP and TANF even harder to
access for those who need that support the most. It even includes language
about sending folks into collections over paused student loan payments,
just to ensure Senator Joe Manchin could get his pet project — the
Mountain Valley Pipeline — across the finish line without interference.

This bill is a direct attack on all of our communities and our climate,
and it will take all of us working together to stop it. Congress will be
voting on this any moment now, so we have to act quickly. [ [link removed] ]Will you call
your members of Congress and urge them to demand a clean debt ceiling
deal?

To make it even easier, we’ve put together this script for you:

Call the House → 202-225-3121
Call the Senate → 202-224-3121

“Hi, my name is [your name] and I’m calling with 350.org to urge my member
of Congress to oppose the Fiscal Responsibility Act and call for a clean
debt ceiling deal. This dirty deal is a direct attack on our climate and
frontline and BIPOC communities. This bill is incompatible with the
President’s climate agenda. If passed, this would severely jeopardize our
national climate goals. Congress must reject this bill and pass a clean
debt ceiling deal.”

Together we can stop this dirty deal and help end the era of fossil fuels.
