Dear John,

ICYMI, we released a major new analysis last month about which voters are most impacted by the increasing voter ID laws across the country. >> [link removed]

* Nearly 29 million voting-age U.S. citizens did not have a current driver's license.
* More than 11 million young people (18-29 year olds) did not have a current driver's license.
* Over 18.5 million people with a high school degree or less did not have a current driver's license.

One thing I hear a lot from people is whether voter ID laws are really that big of a deal — after all, doesn’t everyone have a photo ID?

As our research makes clear, millions of eligible American voters do not have a form of ID that many states now require to vote — and the voters who lack these IDs are most often young people, people of color, low income people, and people without a college degree.

That’s millions of eligible voters who can’t make their voices heard in our democracy.

VoteRiders is working to mitigate the impact of these laws by educating voters about what ID they need to vote (if any), and helping them (for free!) if they do not already have an acceptable ID. We help them to secure underlying documents like birth certificates or social security cards, help with appointments, and cover all fees related to getting their IDs.

It’s painstaking work that can sometimes take months — but it matters because we believe every eligible voter has the right to cast a ballot.

P.S. You can support our work by funding our direct ID help for voters. Every $50 donation funds the cost of securing a vital document (like a birth certificate) for a voter looking to get an ID.
