The framers of the Constitution created lifetime appointments for Supreme Court Justices to insulate the court from political pressures and partisan conflict.

That's just not happening anymore.

Donald Trump has specifically sought the most extreme partisan loyalists to put on the bench; Mitch McConnell has made clear that he'll sink to any depth to confirm them.

Now, with justices serving ever-longer terms, the stakes keep getting higher and higher, and the nomination process keeps getting more drawn out and less productive.

The more politicians argue and special interests run expensive TV commercials and Fox News stokes the flames, the more working people feel like the system doesn't serve them.

We desperately need to reform our court system. That's why enacting term limits for Supreme Court Justices is one of the core structural changes I'm fighting to fix in our broken Senate.

I'm ready to lead that fight on day one to dismantle the failed systems that pave the way for Mitch McConnell's abuses of power and continued attacks on our democracy.

But if we're going to win that fight in the Senate, we need to win this primary.
