VIDEO OF THE DAY: Major development in Trump prosecution in Georgia
The only American ex-president to ever be indicted could make history again as the expansive probe into his election interference in Georgia could soon score him a second indictment.

Republicans target Kohl’s with Target-style boycott over Pride Month onesies
Right-wing culture warriors have staked out the next battlefield in their endless war on common sense and decency, after demonizing the likes of Disney, Target, and Bud Light for failing to be sufficiently bigoted against the LGBTQ community. This time, Republicans are absolutely furious — furious, we tell you! — that Kohl's is selling rainbow-colored children's clothes and other Pride-themed items. As deranged as these attacks are, they serve a very specific purpose for the GOP's larger political project — to distract their voters from the fact that the party is responsible for every real problem ruining their lives.

Elon Musk’s new Texas neighbors don’t want his poop in their river
In addition to being the most annoying man on the internet, the billionaire tech bozo is also a shitty neighbor — literally. Not only have his SpaceX and Boring companies upended rural communities outside Austin with rampant development and construction, Musk is now seeking permission to dump wastewater into the nearby Colorado River. Yuck.

Republican threatens to kill debt limit deal as pressure grows on McCarthy
Kevin McCarthy's tenuous grasp on power is wobbling as some of the more extreme members of his party threaten to derail the debt limit deal using newly acquired powers they extracted from the speaker in exchange for handing him the gavel in January. GOP Rep. Chip Roy is particularly displeased with McCarthy, who apparently must obtain unanimous consent from all nine Republicans on the powerful House Rules Committee before moving any legislation forward to the full House. Oops.

“We must never forget the price that was paid to protect our democracy,” Biden said. “We must never forget the lives these flags, flowers, and marble markers represent.”

Biden calls for immediate repeal of Uganda’s anti-gay law
The African nation of 45 million people just passed heinous legislation making homosexuality punishable by death, prompting President Biden to demand an immediate repeal under threat of possible sanctions. Moments like this perfectly distill how crucial it is having a Democrat in the White House not just for America, but for the entire world. If Trump were somehow still president, he'd likely be on the phone right now, congratulating the Ugandan president for scoring a tremendous victory against "wokeness."
9 injured in Memorial Day mass shooting on Florida beach
Thanks to the outrageously loose gun laws passed by the GOP legislature in Florida, it's very easy for a holiday to be ruined by an altercation turning into a mass shooting — which is exactly what happened when two groups of people started shooting wildly at each other on the beach, hitting a baby in the leg and three other kids.
Lawsuit claims Eric Trump secretly approved deal to squeeze millions in construction expenses and bogus monthly fees from Trump Tower condo owners
Come on, now. Would a guy who siphoned donor money away from child cancer patients really do something like that?
Alabama interstate sign hacked with white supremacy messages on Memorial Day
Knuckle-dragging neo-Nazis in Alabama spent their holiday the only way they know how — spreading ignorance and hate. Let's hope they were dumb enough to leave a paper trail.

Today’s Action: Support the Writers Guild of America strike!
The writers of all our favorite TV and streaming shows are currently on strike, and for very good reason. While the advent of streaming has unleashed a torrent of wonderful, high-quality entertainment, it has proven financially calamitous for writers, who have found themselves working for less and less pay year after year. Adjusted for inflation, writer pay has dropped 14% over the past five years! On top of that, their jobs (and the future quality of our favorite shows) are being threatened by the looming specter of AI-generated content and the hunger of big corporations to cut every single job they possibly can to maximize profits.
The companies' behavior has created a gig economy inside a union work force, and their immovable stance in this negotiation has betrayed a commitment to further devaluing the profession of writing, the Writers Guild of America said in a statement.
CEO compensation last year averaged roughly $32 million at the industry’s 12 major media companies. It's obvious these juggernauts can afford to properly compensate their writers. If they won't, then writers should continue to strike until they receive a fair contract.
Support striking WGA writers by donating your time and/or finances! You can write letters of support, donate to the Snacklist (which delivers food and coffee to striking writers), share their demands using the WGA social media toolkit (#WGAstrong, #WGAstrike), or — if you’re in LA or New York City — join them on the frontlines!
