Every year, states spend hundreds of thousands of dollars drug testing people who apply for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits — a policy that costs these states far more than they save.
Every month, people desperate for affordable housing are shut out of assistance programs because of prior drug convictions, at a time when they are most in need of a safe and stable place to live.
And every night, more than 400,000 people sleep on a hard bed behind bars because they’ve been convicted of a drug violation — a conviction that will make securing a steady job, getting an education, and finding an affordable home that much harder.
You can help to change this, Friend. But time is running out!
