Today, we remember Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider who was senselessly murdered by anti-abortion extremists on May 31st, 2009 while serving as an usher at his church. One of the very few physicians performing later abortion care at that time and already the victim of a previous assassination attempt, Dr. Tiller dedicated nearly forty years of his life as the only provider in Wichita, Kansas and living up to his motto: trust women .
Dr. Tiller’s murder serves both as a reminder of the violent and dangerous reality of the anti-abortion movement, and the courage of abortion providers who show up to work day in and day out, despite the danger they face. We will never forget the compassionate example he set.
Rest in power, Dr. Tiller.

Listen, Carolinas- y’all have really got to stop fucking with us . First, North Carolina electeds passed an arbitrary 12-week abortion ban [[link removed]] . Then, the Governor vetoed it [[link removed]] . AND THEN, THE LEGISLATURE OVERRODE THE VETO [[link removed]] .
Not to be outdone, the South Carolina legislature rolled up and said, “Hold my SOMETHING HERE,” and passed a SIX-week abortion ban [[link removed]] that went into effect immediately ! Thankfully, Judge Clifton Newman put the law on hold [[link removed]] less than 24-hours later until the state Supreme Court weighs in.
Here’s the thing, y’all- a ban is a ban is a ban . Whether it is six weeks, twelve weeks, twenty weeks- IT IS ALL BULLSHIT! Abortion bans at any period make access harder and push more abortion seekers to second- and third-trimester abortions, further making abortion care cost-prohibitive. Whatever lies they want us to believe, there is no acceptable compromise [[link removed]] on our right to abortion care . We can be glad that abortion seekers are still able to access abortion care in states without outright bans, but let’s be clear: there is no gestational limit they can force on us that will ever be okay .
