Rajeshwari labored in the brick kiln for three long years before IJM became alerted to the family’s situation. Planning a rescue operation proved difficult because the brick kiln was in a dense area surrounded by more than 100 other similar kilns. It was a dangerous place and any outsiders searching around it would raise the attention of the brutal owners.
IJM investigators were able to secretly hand off a smartphone to Rajeshwari’s father at the local market to help guide them to the family’s exact location. But when the time for rescue came, Rajeshwari's parents were overwhelmed and had difficulty with the technology. That is when 13-year-old Rajeshwari became the hero of her own story.
Using her incredible memory of a place she sadly knew too well, she drew a richly-detailed map and sent it over the smartphone to the IJM rescue team. It was the family's best chance at being found sooner and brought to safety.
Rajeshwari’s action was both brave and inspiring, but she isn’t the only hero of her story. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, John, we can provide critical, ongoing support for survivors like Rajeshwari until they are fully restored — and we invite you to join us. Please give today to help send rescue to more children and families around the world.
