We are closer than we’ve ever been to having the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) incorporated into the U.S. Constitution, but the progress we are making towards women’s equality is not guaranteed—it can be lost at any time.
The Equal Rights Amendment would enshrine protections to our gains and guard against any rollbacks to women’s rights by legislation or court cases that are often politically motivated. We know that the ERA is key to strengthening and solidifying equal protections under the law, but is only one part of our path. Another crucial step toward women’s equality is to adopt State ERAs.
If we want ERA success, we need support from dedicated feminists and grassroots activists across the country like you, John.
