Dear friend,

This Memorial Day, we remember the brave American soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country in defense of our freedom. I hope you will join me in honoring the lives of these courageous service members today.

Our country was founded under the promise that we are endowed with certain, unalienable rights — to life, to liberty, and to pursue happiness. And when those rights have come under siege, our fallen soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice to put the freedom of our nation above their own lives.

Friend, this legacy of freedom is one we must fight for each and every day so that our soldiers didn’t lose their lives in vain.

We must fight to make sure every American has a voice in our democracy, and we must do everything we can to ensure the freedoms for which our courageous soldiers gave their lives are protected here at home, too.

On this day of remembrance, my thoughts are with all the families across our nation who are missing a loved one at their dinner table tonight. I am keeping you close in my heart — today and always.
