This Memorial Day, I’m thinking of the countless brave service members who have sacrificed everything to protect our values, our ideals, and our nation - and of the many military families who have lost loved ones.
More than 100,000 active duty service members and 200,000 veterans call San Diego home - I know that our community deeply understands the sacrifice involved in service.
On this solemn day, I hope you’ll join me in reflecting on the courage of all the service members who have given their lives in service to our country.
To those we’ve lost, we owe a debt of gratitude that is impossible to repay.
But we can start by honoring them through better caring for our military communities. I’m proud to represent so many members of the military community in Congress, and I take that responsibility very seriously. From pushing to end outdated war authorizations to addressing military quality-of-life issues, like lack of housing that’s affordable and safe - supporting all members of our military is a critical part of honoring our fallen heroes.
On Memorial Day and every day of the year, one way we can show our gratitude to service members who have died protecting our country is by ensuring that everyone in our military community lives with the dignity and respect they deserve.
