On Memorial Day, I am reminded how important it is to stand up for American democracy, freedom, and our shared values. As a Marine Corps veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and retired officer, I have witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made by those who selflessly gave their lives for our country and the freedoms we enjoy today.

To all the warriors who selflessly gave their lives for their Country and for our freedom: we salute you. Closest to my heart will always be the warriors of 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines, 1st Light Armored Recon, and 1st Force Recon Company.

Fair winds and following seas—We have the watch!

It is our duty as Americans to protect and defend the democracy they fought so bravely to preserve. Today, our country is more divided than ever, and it is the responsibility of every American to work towards healing and unity.

In honor of their sacrifice, we must come together and make our country, and our union, strong!

I hope you will stand with me now and always in honor and in awe of those brave individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
