TAKE ACTION TODAY and tell the #NVLeg to not use public money on another stadium! |
Hello Friend, Here we are again facing another multi-million dollar sports team that wants our tax dollars to build a stadium. This time, the Oakland A’s are asking for a handout to the tune of approx. $380 million, and the Legislature is ramming this bill — SB509 — through the process with a hearing TODAY, Memorial Day, at 4 p.m. We need YOU to call into a joint hearing of the Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means Committees TODAY at 4 p.m. and tell them to NOT waste taxpayer dollars on another #StadiumScam when our state has CRUCIAL services and initiatives to fund, like our public schools, affordable housing, and healthcare services! How you can help:
With limited opportunity to provide testimony during the hearing, PLEASE make sure to submit your opinion online to the Committees! CLICK HERE to submit your testimony online to make sure that YOUR VOICE can be heard! We were opposed to the last stadium and we will be opposed to this stadium too, because corporate handouts and abatements should NOT be the Nevada way. TELL YOUR LEGISLATOR TO SAY “NO” TO THIS SCAM! It is long past time that we invest our money in the right places like mental health, affordable housing, childcare, infrastructure, public education, and so much more. Instead, the legislature would rather publicly fund yet ANOTHER stadium in Las Vegas — with NO guarantee that it will be profitable or long-lasting. Not to mention the incredible risk to Nevada taxpayers with the way this deal is set up and how many times the A’s have already moved the goalpost. While we are searching for couch pennies to put into so many critical needs – Nevada is considering having the public foot the bill for another stadium. Will you join us in telling the Legislature to say NO to public dollars for this scam?! Nevada has seen one stadium scam before, but this proposal is even riskier for our state and for hardworking Nevadans whose tax dollars will be put in jeopardy to fund this project. By promising to fund this stadium, the state and county will essentially be on the hook if it fails - there is no other revenue source to back these bonds. Think about what we could do with $380 million dollars in mental health funding or affordable housing programs? Study after study has shown that these types of publicly financed stadiums are not good for the economy and in the long run do not benefit the community. Not to mention the damage the A’s will cause by leaving the city of Oakland and what that city has invested in their team over the years. This is yet another example of a rich dude coming to Nevada and asking for corporate welfare and we have frankly had enough! It is time to start thinking long-term about how we can attract businesses to Nevada. NOT through tax handouts and abatements, but through fully funding education, investing in mental health, and making our state a desirable place to live in for EVERYONE. JOIN US AND TELL THE NEVADA LEGISLATURE TO SAY NO TO ANOTHER STADIUM SCAM! We fought the last stadium together and we will fight this one too! Thank you,
PS - Tweet to share your opposition with the #NVLEG!
