John, I want to take a moment today to recognize the members of our armed services who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

As the daughter of an Air Force veteran, I deeply understand the level of devotion that so many give to our country – the devotion on which so many Americans have laid down their lives to make our country what it is today.

Today, I'm thinking of countless fallen heroes — heroes who fought for our right to speak our minds, vote, run for office, conduct free and fair elections, and live full lives in a functioning democracy.

We must continue to make our nation a place that lives up to the ideals that so many have laid down their lives for.
