John, here are a few ways to tell that Kevin McCarthy is the weakest House Speaker in modern history:

Marjorie Taylor Greene went from unhinged rants about Jewish space lasers in the last Congress to being a part of McCarthy’s leadership team in this one.

Just the other day, Kevin McCarthy allowed Greene to preside over the entire House, where she instructed members to observe proper decorum. I kid you not. It was so pathetic, members started laughing out loud. But her new influence is anything but laughable.

But this is who McCarthy depends upon now to govern — the crazy caucus. While revelations of George Santos’ lies were coming to light, he was supporting McCarthy for each of his 15 votes for House Speaker — and McCarthy was grateful for the help. McCarthy has had Santos' back ever since.

The Speaker’s own members don’t trust him. Many openly exploit him. McCarthy doesn’t care, as long as he gets to hold onto that gavel.

California and the nation deserve better from our leaders.
