Here at HIAS, we remain as committed as ever to providing life-changing support to refugees – no matter where they are. Today, we wanted to share a little more about what that work looks like on the ground:
Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled to Kenya in search of safety from ongoing violence and conflict in Somalia, South Sudan and other countries in Africa. To make sure they get the assistance they need, HIAS has three offices in Nairobi, where much of our work focuses on supporting the needs of the most vulnerable refugees, including 28,000 refugee children. Our teams work tirelessly to protect these children, efforts that include preventing and responding to cases of abuse or exploitation, and advocating against any form of discrimination.
These efforts are absolutely vital in helping refugees – especially refugee children – build new lives in safety and freedom. But none of this work is possible without the generosity of dedicated supporters like you. In Chad, HIAS is working not only to provide refugees with assistance to meet their immediate needs, but also with the resources and support they need to become completely self-reliant. Through programs that help refugees develop valuable leadership and economic skills – such as a project that teaches women how to bake bread to sell in markets – they can move toward greater stability, health and hope for the future.
Our goal is to continue expanding on this life-changing work in 2020 – in Kenya, Chad and around the world. But we can’t do that without your support.
