Presidential nominating caucuses might have a long tradition, but it's time to make a change. After what we just saw in Iowa, it's clear that we need to move away from the antiquated system of caucuses in favor of more representative primaries.

Caucuses require a big time commitment, causing voter turnout to plummet. They exclude those who can't afford child care, may be disabled or ill, or have inflexible work schedules. They fly in the face of the values of the Democratic Party. These issues are now compounded by inaccurate tallies like we saw this past week. It's time to make a change.

SIGN ON: NO MORE CAUCUSES

We can do better than counting people in high school gyms and tossing coins to break ties. Everyone should have the ability to participate in the critical process of electing our next president, not just those fortunate enough to be able to give up four hours on a Monday night.

Let's be clear: We didn't need what transpired in Iowa to understand the outdated and undemocratic nature of caucuses -- it just highlighted the magnitude of those issues.

This system is not working. Add your name to put an end to Democratic presidential nominating caucuses once and for all.
