Those nearly 12,000 disasters aren’t an unlucky streak, John. They are the result of our lack of action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions causing a rapidly warming planet and a rapidly changing climate.

John: The United Nations just released a report that shows 12,000 disasters over the past 50 years were linked to extreme weather and climate change.

Among the report’s conclusions, it was found that:

  • Over 90% of the approximately 2 million deaths during this period took place in developing countries.
  • It has globally cost $4.3 trillion for cleanup and rebuilding post-disaster, with the U.S. making up about 40% of that bill.
  • Industrialized countries experience the greatest economic loss from extreme weather events.
  • Higher-than-average temperatures were the leading cause of fatalities, and flooding was the costliest.

It’s another example of the devastating toll hurricanes, floods, and heat waves take because of climate change. That’s why we are asking you to donate to SEEC PAC today so we can fully fund our Members of Congress who are working around the clock to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Those nearly 12,000 disasters aren’t an unlucky streak, John. They are the result of our lack of action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions causing a rapidly warming planet and a rapidly changing climate. And as the U.N. shows, no corner of the globe is safe from these threats.

We’re living with the consequences of climate inaction right now, John. While we can’t turn back time, we can take decisive action to mitigate the future effects of climate change.

It’s time to get serious about protecting communities suffering from these disasters. SEEC members of Congress know we can’t afford to wait any longer. Will you let them know you’re standing with them?
