Tell President Biden to Protect the Pacific Remote Islands
The Biden administration, with the support of 23 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island Indigenous leaders, is considering expanding protections for the Pacific Remote Islands by designating this unique ecosystem as a National Marine Sanctuary.
This is a huge opportunity for the administration to reach its goal of protecting thirty percent of U.S. waters by 2030, while preserving and promoting the culture of Native Pacific Islanders. We need your help to urge President Biden to protect the Pacific Remote Islands as quickly as possible.
Tell the Biden administration to protect the Pacific Remote Islands.

DEVELOPING — President Biden has initiated the process to designate the Pacific Remote Islands as a National Marine Sanctuary. This step would protect some of the last remaining healthy, wild ecosystems in the Pacific Ocean from destruction.
This is a big deal, Friend. Protecting the Pacific Remote Islands would be a massive step toward fulfilling President Biden’s promise to conserve at least 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.
The federal government is accepting input from the public right now, and it’s critical that they hear from our movement. If we don’t make our voices heard, this priceless ecosystem could fall victim to overfishing, extraction, development, and other environmental harms.
Take action today: tell the Biden administration that you support permanent protections for the entire Pacific Remote Islands. Help us reach our goal to deliver 5,000 comments from environmentalists like you before the public comment deadline >>
The waters surrounding the Pacific Remote Islands are home to diverse tropical marine wildlife — the species that live there are highly vulnerable to climate change, invasive species, and debris from industrial fishing and shipping. Protections are needed to preserve the atolls, shoals, banks, reefs, seamounts, and waters surrounding the existing marine sanctuary.
Beyond its unique ecological qualities, this ecosystem also holds immense historical and cultural importance to the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific. As it considers expanding protections, the Biden administration is consulting local Indigenous communities. They have also committed to renaming the sanctuary to better reflect these cultural ties.
We need your help to ensure that the Biden administration follows through with its conservation goals. Help us reach our goal by sending a message to the Biden administration right now. Tell them it’s time to protect the Pacific Remote Islands — it only takes a moment >>
Thanks for standing up for our country’s lands and waters, Friend.
Onward,
Team LCV
