Welcome back to Team Elise's weekly newsletter! Here are a few of the stories we are tracking, along with some news around NY-21:
Elise Continues to Fight to Protect Chocolate Milk
Kathy Hochul’s war on American traditions continues with her latest plan to ban chocolate milk in our schools, hurting NY-21 farmers. Elise stated:
"I will always lead the fight to save chocolate milk and protect our Upstate New York and the North Country dairy farmers. When New York City Mayor Eric Adams tried to ban chocolate milk, I led the successful effort to fight back and won on behalf of families and farmers. Now, Joe Biden is embracing this Far Left radical proposal to ban chocolate milk. This is totally unacceptable and I will do everything in my power to stop these efforts. Flavored milk is one the best ways for kids to get essential dairy nutrients for growth and development,”
Elise is Leading the Fight to Fix the Baby Formula Supply Chain Crisis
As the newest mom in Congress, Elise knows how important it is to be able to feed your child. This week, she introduced the INFANT Act that would expand the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) from one manufacturer and supplier to two - making it easier for families to get baby formula.
This week, Elise stood with Senator Dan Stec to STOP Kathy Hochul from housing illegal immigrants inside taxpayer-funded dorms at SUNY schools. On ending the madness in New York State, Elise stated:
“I applaud Senator Dan Stec and his Republican colleagues in the NY State Senate for putting forward legislation to stop Hochul’s dangerous plan to house illegal immigrants inside taxpayer-funded SUNY dorm rooms.”
Elise will always stand up for our Upstate New York and North Country farmers. Our farmers are the backbone of our community. Elise understands: no farms = no food. Read the below letter to the editor in the Post Star from Joe to learn more:
Read Elise’s Op-Ed on The Biden Border Crisis
The crisis at our border is President Biden’s fault - and the American people know it. Elise penned this Op-Ed to showcase the GOP’s work to END Biden’s Border Crisis.
PASSED: The GOP’s Bill to stop Fentanyl Pouring Across our Border
Fentanyl overdoses are the leading cause of death in Americans from 18-49 years old. On Thursday, the GOP passed the HAULT Fentanyl Act to stop the amount of fentanyl pouring across our border. On this important and historic legislation Elise stated:
“This lifesaving legislation brings us one step closer to combatting the illicit fentanyl crisis. Along with the Secure the Border Act, which will significantly limit the amount of illicit fentanyl pouring into communities across the United States, the HALT Fentanyl Act promises to provide law enforcement with the tools they need to keep fentanyl off our streets and out of the hands of the most vulnerable members of our communities.
The illicit fentanyl crisis has only been exacerbated by Joe Biden’s radical open border policies and we are now seeing hundreds of Americans killed daily by illicit fentanyl. Fentanyl poisoning deaths account for 77% of adolescent overdose deaths and fentanyl poisoning is the leading cause of death for adults aged 18 to 49. These numbers are not just numbers; there is a face, a name, and a grieving family behind each and every statistic.
Across Upstate New York and the North Country, there has been an alarming spike in illicit fentanyl overdoses - just this past weekend, there were five overdoses in Rensselaer County. This cannot keep happening, which is why House Republicans took matters into their own hands and passed legislation to address the illicit fentanyl crisis.”
As we approach Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms as a nation. This is a day of honor and remembrance. It is a reminder that freedom isn't free. It comes at a cost, the sacrifice of the brave men and women who have fought and died to protect it.
Upstate New York and the North Country have a long and proud history of military service. From the Revolutionary War to the present, soldiers from this region have served with distinction and honor, always rising to the challenges presented to them.
On this Memorial Day, it is important to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. They are the true heroes whose sacrifices ensure we can live in a free and democratic society. They remind us of the courage and determination it takes to defend our way of life and stand up for what is right.
In this spirit, we must also renew our commitment to our Gold Star families. These families, who have lost loved ones in service to our nation, deserve our recognition and support. I have worked tirelessly in Congress to ensure that these families have the resources and assistance they need to cope with the loss of their loved ones. It is our duty to ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten and that they are forever honored for their service to our country.
As we enjoy the freedoms that we have, it is important to honor our fallen heroes by committing to preserving those freedoms. We must continue to support our military personnel and their families and ensure they have the resources they need to serve our country. In doing so, we can honor the legacy of those who have given their lives in defense of our great nation.
So on this Memorial Day, let us remember and honor our fallen heroes. Let us never forget the sacrifices they made, and let us strive to be worthy of the freedoms they fought and died to protect. Let us all take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and recommit ourselves to upholding the values and ideals that define our Republic.
May God bless America,
Elise Stefanik
