No one should have to die because they can’t afford care. No one should be forced to choose between putting food on the table or receiving life-saving treatment. But this is happening to millions of U.S. residents, even though we live in the wealthiest country on Earth. It’s outrageous.
No family should ever face financial ruin because they got sick. But 20% of families are weighed down by medical debt in this country, and it’s one of the major reasons people file for bankruptcy.
Our profit-driven health care system is killing us while enriching Big Pharma and health insurance CEOs. We urgently need to take the profit motive out of health care. That’s why I joined my colleagues in reintroducing the Medicare for All Act.
